From the 8th August to 24th August 2008
On 13 July 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. The vote followed in line with the recommendation of the IOC Evaluation Commission that "a Beijing Games would leave a unique legacy to China and to sports. The Commission is confident that Beijing could organise an excellent Games".

East Asian Games
Hong Kong is hosting the 2009 East Asian Games (EAG), one of Asia's showpiece athletic gatherings featuring top-class athletes from 9 areas from around the region in 23 sports. As a prelude to this major event, you can get into the spirit of the Games by visiting a special gallery inside the Sports Centre in Hong Kong Park. Here you'll find a wide-ranging display of modern art depicting the Olympic Dream.
The gallery includes an introduction to the Olympic movement, background information on the EAG, updates on preparations for the event and souvenirs for sale. There is also an intriguing collection of sport memorabilia comprising Olympic torches, medals and posters and EAG venue models. Guided tours are held every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. A total of 200 teams have entered the race for one of the 31 places at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The preliminary phase, which began in the Oceanian Zone back in August 2007, is now in full swing, with only the Host Nation guaranteed a berth in world football's showpiece event.
